Working Through Differentiation Based Challenges That Crucible® Therapists Face

Dates: October 17-20, 2024 (beginning 4 PM, Oct 17 until 1 PM, Oct. 20)

Location: Berkeley Springs, WV.

Participants: Limited to 9

Facilitator: Barbara Fairfield, LCMFT

David Schnarch emphasized that the differentiation of the therapist is the limiting factor in Crucible® Therapy. Therapists are challenged to see and deal with their own limitations in their work with clients. This workshop is an experiential and group-oriented format designed to provide therapists with a framework for exploring their own differentiation issues that affect their effectiveness as Crucible® therapists.

Participants will meet at my cabin in West Virginia. There is bed space in the cabin for all 9 participants in shared rooms and shared baths for no charge. But participants can also opt to have their own separate rooms, either by renting another cabin in the development and/or sharing the expense of that with others or by renting a room at the Coolfont Resort near the property.

Cost: $500/person plus shared expense for one dinner and 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches at the cabin, TBD. Two other dinners will be at the resort/nearby pub and will be at your own expense. No cost for staying at the cabin.

Meals: Breakfast and lunches at the cabin. Dinner at either the Treetop Restaurant at the Coolfont Resort or at the nearby pub, Berkeley Springs Brewing Company. Sharing meals together is part of the group experience.

Transportation: The nearest airports are each about 1 ½ hours by car: Washington Dulles International (IAD) or Baltimore-Washington international (BWI). Participants could coordinate arrivals and departures and share a rental car from either airport.

About the presenter:

Barbara Fairfield is a Crucible® therapist who trained with Dr. Schnarch from 1994-2020. Her experience with leading three therapy groups, 2 all-female, one all-male, included yearly retreats for each group and a yearly workshop for the combined groups. It is this experience that informs her offering of this workshop where therapists can explore their own issues relevant to their practice of therapy in a “live-in” experience with fellow colleagues. The cabin is located in the hills of West Virginia surrounded by the forest community. The October weekend should be at or close to peak of Fall colors and mild temperatures. The cabin is comfortable, but not luxurious! This is West Virginia, almost heaven!
