Houston Practicum
26-30 October 2026
Location:
Grennoch Lane, Houston, Texas
Practicum Schedule:
25 October: optional evening meal at 7pm.
26-30 October: 9am to 5pm each day.
30 October: practicum ends at 5pm
About the practicum:
The Practicum will focus on developing practical skills, and removing blind spots and places where you “get stuck.” There are opportunities to practice “being the therapist” in clinical simulations and receive feedback and more specific attention from the workshop leader and to consider the “person of the therapist.”
Content of the Practicum focuses around difficult cases submitted by participants involving sexual problems mixed with relationship difficulties. All participants are invited to submit a real case with which they have or had difficulty. (Although not all cases will be used during the Practicum, all will influence lecture and discussion topics).
Case write-ups consist of 2-3 pages describing the case, the nature of the problem in treatment, why the therapist thinks this problem is occurring, what the therapist has done to deal with the problem, and where the therapist is stuck. Please include a few paragraphs of typical dialogue from the therapy session. Selected cases are deconstructed, problems are identified, and new solutions proposed. Participants will have opportunities to practice making new interventions in therapy simulations. Practicum group process provides a supportive environment encouraging professional and personal growth.
Location:
The practicum will be held at Amy Fuller’s house in Houston, Texas. Each day there will be breakfast and lunch provided, so we will have plenty of opportunity to spend time together, and connect as a crucible community.
Please note: If you have a special dietary requirement, please let us know when registering so that the menu can be adjusted to cater for this. It is also important to know that Amy has a cat and dog, in case you are allergic to animals.
Food and Lodging:
Breakfast and lunch are provided each day.
There are several hotels about a mile from Amy’s house. Last year most participants stayed at Hotel Ylem and carpooled or walked to Amy’s house.
Registration:
Please email James Christensen at james.m.christensen@gmail.com to register or ask questions.
Cost:
The fee is $1100 USD for the 5-Day program (Breakfast and Lunch is included).
Payment will be due in August.
If there is someone who would really like to attend, but finance is an issue, then you can also touch base with us, and we will see if there is a way we might be able to assist you.
